2017 Provincial Torch Run Ceremony

Law Enforcement Officers and Special Olympic Athletes from across the province converged on the steps of the Alberta Legislature to kick off 2017 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games Final Leg.  Speaker Wanner and other Members of the Legislative Assembly participated in the ceremony that saw the Flame of Hope carried off to community runs throughout the Province.  On July 7th the Flame of Hope will complete it’s journey into the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Games in Medicine Hat.  Thank you to the many Officers and Athletes that participated.  A huge thank you to Mr. Lube, presenting sponsor of the 2017 Summer Games Final Leg.

2017 Polar Plunges

What an amazing year of Plunges across Alberta!!!  This year Plunges were held in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

Over 650 plungers across Alberta took part in Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Alberta helping to raise over $167,000 in donations and sponsorships!!

Everyone plunged in great company.  Joining the rank of Plungers this year was: Rick Mercer, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Marlin Degrand, Chief Sheriff Lee Newton, several Deputy Chiefs from Edmonton, Calgary and Medicine Hat, MLAs, Olympic medalists, media celebrities, a Calgary Stampeder and several Special Olympic Athletes. What a dedicated group!

2017 Cycle For A Cause Lethbridge

On Saturday, April 22nd, the Lethbridge Correctional Centre hosted Cycle for a Cause at Park Place Mall in Lethbridge. In collaboration with several law enforcement agencies and community groups, they all helped raise funds for Special Olympics Alberta. It was attended by members of the Lethbridge Police Service (Recruit Class), LCC Casual Team, Lethbridge Community Corrections, the Kinetic Indoor Cycle Club, Orange Theory Fitness, Headwinds Cycling Club, The Lethbridge Correctional Centre Tactical Team, Taber Police, Blood Tribe Police, LCC Special Olympics Committee, Special Olympic Athletes and several members of the community that wished to show their support.

This year the Cycle for a Cause event raised over $8000!!!

This event would never have been possible without the generous support from our sponsors and volunteers. A tremendous thank you to the University of Lethbridge Recreation Department for their stationary bikes, Orange Theory Fitness for towels, the Park Place Mall for allowing us to host this event at your venue, Tim Hortons, Davids Tea, Booster Juice & Crave Food services for the hot beverages and refreshments , SportChek for Gatorade, energy gels and towels, Special Olympics for their amazing fruit & food spread, Mr. Bernie Pohl for creating banners and signs for the teams, the Special Olympics volunteers and Athletes that helped out in so many ways,  and finally all the teams and participants who shed blood, sweat & tears in their cycling efforts!
