On June 28th Lethbridge hosted their community Torch Run to bring awareness and support for the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place in Medicine Hat in July. At 11:30 am the Run commenced at City Hall and ended at Galt Gardens (601 – 3 Ave S) where participants were treated to a BBQ. Over $1,100 was raised to support Special Olympics Lethbridge and Special Olympics Alberta.

On June 25th, 2017, Red Deer hosted their Final Leg Torch Run to celebrate the many Athletes that will be attending the Summer Games in Medicine Hat on the weekend of July 7th. This event was also a fundraiser which saw over 25 Law Enforcement members and athletes come out and raise over $2,700 for Special Olympics Alberta, Special Olympics Alberta – Red Deer and Special Olympics Alberta – Lacombe.

On June 23rd Strathcona County hosted their community Torch Run bringing awareness and support for the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place in Medicine Hat in July. At 1:15 pm on June 23rd the run commenced at the RCMP detachment and ended at Strathcona County Hall. A ceremony took place to welcome the Law Enforcement members and send off Athletes.

On June 17th Edmonton hosted their community Torch Run bringing awareness and support for the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place in Medicine Hat in July. At 11:00 am on June 17th the run began at the Edmonton Police Service (1351 Windermere Way SW) and ended at Cabela’s (6150 Currents Drive NW).
Over 50 Law Enforcement members and Special Olympic Athletes participated in the run!

On June 16th Law Enforcement members were raised to the roof at Cabela’s to embark on 53 hours camping to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Alberta.
Officers sang, danced and participated in water fights. The public came out to meet Special Olympic Athletes, visit with our Officers, and enjoy our Show & Shine. Thanks to the maNy hours put in by our Finest and the generous support of many donors we were able to raise over $7,500 to support athletic programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

On June 16th our Finest were raised up at both Cabela’s locations in Edmonton to embark on being confined for 53 hours to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Alberta.
They danced, sang and participated in water fights! The public came out to take part in many demonstrations such as Junior Training camp, Fish & Wildlife exhibits and the Explosive unit. Thanks to many generous donors we were able to raise over $10,000!

The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run 500km Bike Ride for Special Olympics Alberta departed from Lethbridge and Fort McMurray on Friday, June 16th. Law Enforcement members from RCMP, Lethbridge Correctional Service, Alberta Sheriffs, Lethbridge Police Service, Animal Services, Blood Tribe Police and Taber Police Service met in Edmonton on June 18th to help escort the Edmonton Torch Run into their destination at Free Our Finest.
Thanks to these dedicated Law Enforcement members over $37,000 was raised to help support programs across the province for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

On June 2nd Calgary held their Community Torch run. Over 30 individuals turned out to bring the Flame of Hope into the Calgary Special Olympics wind up at Thorncliffe Greenview Community hall. We were extremely fortunate to have representation from Calgary Police Service, Alberta Corrections and Columbia College – School of Justice.
On June 3rd Olds kicked off our Free Our Finest season. Thank you to the many Law Enforcement Officers, Alberta Sheriffs, RCMP, and Alberta Corrections for helping raise over $5,000 for Special Olympics programs!
Thank you also to the many Special Olympic Athletes and Volunteers that worked tireless in the wind to raise awareness and funds!
