South West region was honoured to hold the 1st Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Alberta Black Tie Gala on September 15th. Guests were treated to music by Trevor Panczak and one lucky guest won a trip to see Billy Joel in New York City. Thanks to all our great sponsors and guests that helped raise over $47,000 for Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Alberta – Lethbridge.
On September 8th Law Enforcement and Emergency Personnel camped out on the roof of Walmart in Wetaskiwin to raise awareness and over $9,000 for Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Alberta – Wetaskiwin.
Members of RCMP, City of Wetaskiwin Bylaw, County of Wetaskiwin Bylaw, Wetaskiwin Fire Services, Military Police, and Pigeon Lake EMS were on hand to interact with the public and demonstrate their resources.

From August 18th until the 20th, Law Enforcement members camped out on scaffolding at Parkland Mall Walmart to raise awareness and over $18,000 for Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Alberta – Red Deer.

From Friday, July 28th to Sunday, July 30th, the Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Alberta (LETR) raised over $8,000 in support of Special Olympics Alberta and Special Olympics Alberta – Airdrie.
Members from Airdrie’s and area Law Enforcement agencies camped out on scaffolding at the Walmart.
A BBQ was held and members of the public had an opportunity to stop by to meet Special Olympics athletes and hear their stories.

On July 7th over 35 Law Enforcement members spent the day running the Flame of Hope throughout Medicine Hat to raise awareness for Special Olympics. Later in the day they ran the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremonies of the 2017 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games in Medicine Hat.

On June 28th Lethbridge hosted their community Torch Run to bring awareness and support for the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place in Medicine Hat in July. At 11:30 am the Run commenced at City Hall and ended at Galt Gardens (601 – 3 Ave S) where participants were treated to a BBQ. Over $1,100 was raised to support Special Olympics Lethbridge and Special Olympics Alberta.

On June 25th, 2017, Red Deer hosted their Final Leg Torch Run to celebrate the many Athletes that will be attending the Summer Games in Medicine Hat on the weekend of July 7th. This event was also a fundraiser which saw over 25 Law Enforcement members and athletes come out and raise over $2,700 for Special Olympics Alberta, Special Olympics Alberta – Red Deer and Special Olympics Alberta – Lacombe.

On June 23rd Strathcona County hosted their community Torch Run bringing awareness and support for the 2017 Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place in Medicine Hat in July. At 1:15 pm on June 23rd the run commenced at the RCMP detachment and ended at Strathcona County Hall. A ceremony took place to welcome the Law Enforcement members and send off Athletes.
